Love is Love

Today is kind of an exciting day in California.  I'm sorry, did I say sort of, I meant it's really exciting.  But of course it's not over yet.

If you aren't from California, let me just give you a little side note here, a couple of years ago, there was a law passed by congress saying that technically there is no "clause" in the constitution that says only a MAN and a WOMAN can marry, so the law in California was tweaked, and for a brief moment in time, a law was passed saying that Same Sex Marriage was allowed in our State, and then there was a big bunch of people who were up in arms about it and made a Proposition stating that: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." Prop 8.  Wha....?   So, then...this Prop 8 business was on the ballot on November 5, 2008.  And, with a huge disappointing vote, it got voted for.  Huge let down to ourselves...first we are granted a law....no wait...a civil right...,and then it gets taken back.  Never has that happened before. Couples that had gotten married under that law were still technically married, but couples that wanted to get married wouldn't be considered recognized in this state.  Supporters of Prop 8 spent a lot of time, and money..I'm sorry did I say spent...I meant wasted a lot of time and almost $40 million dollars later a lot of money.

Today though, a judge over ruled that decision saying that the ban on gay marriages is unconstitutional.  Of course you have the people that are pissed and feel like marriage is a religious thing, and should remain so.  But, then again, so was throwing stones at people at one point and now...if you do that well, you go to jail. Let me just list a couple of things we do...well...we allow that the HOLY BIBLE says is a NO-NO...it gets detailed...get ready...

1. Wearing Gold, or braids in your hair: 1 Timothy 2:9 doesn’t like your gold necklace at all. Or your pearl necklace. Or any clothes you’re wearing that you didn’t get from Forever 21, Old Navy or H&M.

“Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments.”

2. Divorce....I'm Screwed..:  The Bible is very clear on this one: No divorcing. You can’t do it. Because when you marry someone, according to Mark 10:8, you “are no longer two, but one flesh.” And, Mark 10:9 reads, “What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”

Mark gets even more hardcore about it a few verses later, in Mark 10:11-12, “And He said to them, ‘Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; and if she herself divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery.’”

3.Guys without balls....Whether you’ve been castrated or lost one or two balls to cancer isn’t important. The Bible doesn’t get that specific. It just says you can’t pray.

Deuteronomy 23:1 reads (this is the God’s Word translation, which spells it out better), “A man whose testicles are crushed or whose penis is cut off may never join the assembly of the Lord.”

WARNING THIS ONE IS DESCRIPTIVE

4. Pulling out. The Bible doesn’t get too much into birth control… it’s clearly pro-populating but, back when it was written, no one really anticipated the condom or the sponge, so those don’t get specific bans.

But… pulling out does. One of the most famous sexual-oriented Bible verses… the one that’s used as anti-masturbation rhetoric… is actually anti-pulling out.

It’s Genesis 38:9-10: “Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother. But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord; so He took his life also.”

Don't worry though, just because these things are banned by the Bible doesn't mean we are going to follow them.  It's easier to try to take civil rights away from people, for no specific reason. But, today that changed, and as well it should have.  There are already appeals happening.  Not even 12 hours later.  People making a huge deal about something that will be unheard of in 20 years, just like when African-Americans weren't allowed in the same restaurant, or let alone drink out of the same water fountain.  And, in 20 years, there will be another thing that the same fanatics will be preaching about.

I'm so excited for my friends in this community who will finally be able to express their love and commitment to each other LEGALLY.  Today is a great day!!
